What if?

You try so hard not to appear weak, damaged or fragile
But what if your legs can no longer walk a step, ten, or a mile?
You convince yourself of dreams, hopes and highs
But what if all you hear is screaming, crying and lies?
You tell yourself that one day you will reach the skies, the mountains of highest height
But what if all you see is obstacles, barriers and sand piles?
You say that one day you will be on top, the best, the one with style
But what if all your dreams, thoughts, wishes were postponed for a while?
You say you are trustworthy, smart and versatile
But what if people can see, understand, know that all you do is wiles?
You say you're strong enough to swim across lakes, ponds and the Nile
But what would happen if you were stuck on a mountain, a roller coaster or an isle?
You say you never cared about anyone, your heart is dead, you're hostile
But what if everyone can see your selfishness, your unconditional hate and your guile?
You sometimes seem interesting, smart and worthwhile
But what if everyone can see what's beneath your laugh, your words and your smile?
